Although amalgam fillings have been used for decades, this “metal” or “silver” alloy contains around 50% mercury—one of the most toxic elements found on the periodic table. BPA-Free Composite Fillings
Perhaps, the most common misunderstanding about composite fillings is that they are all the same. Actually, there are many component chemicals that can be used to make composites, including BPA, a known endocrine disruptor that may contribute to physical and neurological problems during early developmental stages in a person’s life. Research has also shown that it interferes with proper thyroid function and possibly be carcinogenic. While ALL amalgam fillings contain mercury, NOT all composites contain BPA.
