At your consultation appointment, the dentist will examine your mouth environment, assess your face and take x-rays and 3D scan of the jaw bone to know if you are a good candidate for all-on-4, where to place your implants as implants will need to be placed considering the bone and where the teeth need to be and etc. The dentist also decides if you can have the implants placed at the same time as extraction of your hopeless teeth or they need to leave the bone to heal before implant placement.
On the day of implant placement, what you can expect:
- Morning: You arrive for your appointment, perhaps a bit nervous but mostly excited.
- Sedation vs no sedation: If you are getting your treatment under sedation, you will meet with the anesthetic first who does the last health check and puts you under.
- Procedure: Using advanced techniques, four to six precisely placed implants are inserted into your jaw.
- Temporary Teeth: A set of temporary denture teeth will be issued for you to get by.
- Release: The dentist will review the instructions with you and arrange required prescriptions. That’s it for the day and you can go home and rest.
What happens after implant placement? Usually, implants need 3-4 months to fuse to the bone and it’s crucial to leave them to rest meaning you need to avoid hard food for at least 5 weeks, the rule of thumb is to eat anything that can be cut with a butter knife.
After the waiting period, your implants will be tested to assess their strength and the process of teeth constructions begin.
