Single Tooth Implants in Brisbane CBD
Missing a tooth? Don’t let a gap in your grin keep you from smiling confidently. A single tooth implant at Excellence in Dentistry could be the perfect solution! This type of dental restoration, which is used to replace a missing tooth, consists of a titanium or ceramic implant post that is surgically placed into the jawbone, topped with an abutment, and a dental crown, mimicking the natural structure and function of a tooth.
What Are Some Benefits?
Apart from their aesthetic appeal, single tooth implants offer many benefits. They preserve adjacent teeth, restore your natural chewing function and help prevent jawbone loss. With proper care and maintenance, including regular dental check-ups and practising good oral hygiene, implants can last for many years, if not a lifetime!
Who May Need This Type of Restoration?
Located at the back of your upper and lower row of teeth, and the last to show in your mouth are the wisdom teeth. Also known as third molars, they break through the gums much later than other teeth, starting from the teenage years or later. Therefore, wisdom teeth might not position themselves correctly, causing complications.
Typical issues relating to wisdom teeth include overcrowding and growing sideways (impacted), which places pressure on surrounding bone structures and teeth. When this occurs, the wisdom tooth must be extracted.
In most extraction cases, an X-ray is taken to help plan the best way to remove the troublesome tooth. The removal may be performed under local anaesthesia, IV Sedation, or general anaesthesia. These options, as well as the possible surgical risks, will be discussed with you before the procedure is performed.
If you have any of the following, you may benefit:
- Tooth loss due to trauma
- Severe tooth decay or damage
- Periodontal disease
- Aesthetic concerns
- Failed root canal treatment
- Congenital anomalies or developmental issues
- Orthodontic concerns
We offer a range of payment plans for your convenience, including the ability to fund your dental treatment through your super.
What to Expect
The process of placing a single tooth implant involves a couple of stages, starting with an initial consultation with one of our dentists to assess candidacy. After the surgical placement, the implant requires a healing period to fuse with your jawbone, a process known as osseointegration. The abutment is then placed, followed by the custom-made dental crown.
We are able to mill our own customised ceramic crowns in-house with our CEREC technology or your dentist may choose to go with a traditional porcelain crown which is made in a local lab off-site.
The entire process typically spans several months, including the healing period. However, the timeline may vary depending on factors such as bone quality, healing ability, and the need for additional procedures such as bone grafting.
